Diploma Programs

At Palmer Seminary of Eastern University, the ESCM diploma program provides an excellent educational opportunity for people who are called to bi-vocational pastoral ministry or faith-based organizational development, or who are preparing to pursue a theological degree. To receive a diploma, students must successfully complete 24 courses in the program, for a minimum of 360 hours of classwork. Students must pass a writing skill evaluation or complete (as one of the 24 courses) the course "Writing for Success Part 1: Basic Writing Skills" in the first year of the program. ESCM diplomas require at least two years to complete. Some students extend their studies over the course of three years.

ESCM offers two diplomas:

  1. Pastoral Studies
  2. Biblical and Theological Studies
DIPLOMA OF PASTORAL STUDIES

This track is designed mainly for those who have been called to pastoral ministry and who seek quality theological education in order to prepare for such ministry. The Seminary's Master of Divinity degree is the ideal credential for pastoral ministry, but for many this is not a viable option, partly because an undegraduate degree is a prerequisite for Masters-level studies. The Diploma of Pastoral Studies provides an alternative seminary education for pastors of small churches and for bi-vocational pastors. Candidates for the Diploma of Pastoral Studies must also complete a Fitness for Ministry evaluation.

DIPLOMA OF BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL STUDIES

The Diploma of Biblical and Theological Studies is designed for students who are considering theological degree studies and seek a thorough preparation, or who wish to lay a strong foundation in the Bible and Theology for their personal growth or ministry. Exceptional students in this track may be considered for admission into one of Palmer Theological Seminary's Masters degree programs even if they have not completed a bachelors degree. This is permitted on a case-by-case basis and is subject to several imitations and requirements. Successful completion of the diploma does not guarantee acceptance into the graduate degree program.
