Dr. Jeffrey Haggray serves as Executive Director of American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) and Chief Executive Officer of Judson Press—a 200 year old publishing company—based in King of Prussia, PA. Haggray leads ABHMS in providing initiatives focused on empowering leaders, providing leadership resources in intercultural ministries, in healing and transforming communities, national disaster response, volunteer mobilization, public witness and advocacy, and continuous learning programs for diverse stakeholders through ABHMS’ Center for Continuous Learning. Additional resources under Haggray’s leadership include Resources for Good (the philanthropic platform funded by ABHMS), the ministrElife platform (a digital platform for religious professionals), and Space for Grace (a national Conference for religious professionals), Scholarships and Emerging Leaders Programs, and Chaplaincy Endorsement. Haggray is especially passionate about empowering emerging leaders to discern and respond to God’s call; and emphasizing God’s loving concern for wholeness and justice for all people.
In addition to his most recent pastorate as Senior Minister of The First Baptist Church of the City of Washington, DC, Haggray has served congregations in New Jersey and Georgia. He also served as Regional Executive Minister of the District of Columbia Baptist Convention in the Metropolitan Washington Region for eight years, helping diverse congregations and institutions access the human and material resources needed to transform their communities. Haggray has served most prominently on the Boards of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, Bread for the World, and Church World Service.
Haggray enjoys quality time with family and friends, reading, bicycling and traveling. His ministry has allowed him to share the Gospel and to travel throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, also in Canada, Chile, the Czech Republic, Egypt, the Gambia, Germany, State of Israel, Jamaica, Malaysia, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Senegal, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Spain, and France.
A native of Savannah, GA, Haggray is an ordained American Baptist minister, also affiliated with The Progressive National Baptist Convention. He is a member of Dare To Imagine Church in Philadelphia, PA, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He earned academic degrees from the University of Virginia (B.A.), Yale Divinity School (M.Div.), and Wesley Theological Seminary (D. Min.); and an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Alderson Broadus College. Haggray is the father of three children and resides in Philadelphia, PA.
