If a student in good standing cannot enroll in at least one course, he/she may request to be placed on inactive status.

1. Under twelve months

A student who is not enrolled in a current semester, term, or academic session will be reported by the Registrar’s Office as “Withdrawn” for enrollment purposes, but he/she will still remain in the degree program. The student may register again for classes within the next twelve months without applying for readmission. In other words, he/she may take up to a year off and resume studies by contacting his/her academic advisor for registration.

2. Between twelve months and five years

If no enrollment occurs in a period of twelve months, the withdrawal will be recorded on the academic record. If the student wants to resume studies in the same program and it has been less than five years since being placed on inactive status, then he/she may apply for readmission with the Registrar’s Office. Access the application for Readmission Form.

3. Beyond five years

If a former student has been placed on inactive status for more than five years and wishes to return to the same degree program, he/she must apply for admission again through the Admissions Office. If admitted, the dean and the program director will determine the amount of previous coursework that can be counted toward the degree based on current program requirements at the time of re-entry.
